No, I'm not talking about sex… I am
talking about that awkward first time of skiing. My very first time was back
when I was about four, and I don't remember much of it. My family paved the way for me to be on the mountains,
and I thank them, because very few things come close to the sun hitting my face
on the mountains in the morning.
Three seasons ago I switched from skiing
to snowboarding. My first time on skis was at Sunshine Ski Resort with my buddy
Iain, and as you can see in the photos it definitely was an awkward moment,
having two planks on my feet instead of being strapped to one. It felt like I
had never been on a mountain before, and the skis had a mind of their own. One
would go left, when I wanted it to go right. I didn't fall much, but I
attribute that to beginner’s luck more than anything.
Now you're probably asking yourself… “Jared
why are you telling me this?” The reason is, do not give up on something until
you have absolutely decided it’s not for you. Sure, I could have quit the next
day, and went back to snowboarding. Now looking back, I'm glad I was stubborn
and kept going, it showed me the mountains in a new light and got me addicted
to improving myself. It also led me to creating my life goal of skiing all the
mountain resorts in the world. So in short, don't give up on anything on your
first day, because you never know what life may throw at you.
